Welcome!

Hello Fifth Graders of NLES!

Welcome to your grade level blog dedicated to WRITING!

I recently picked up an AMAZING book entitled Spilling Ink: A Young Writer's Handbook. Like every book I pick up, I read the first couple pages. Something happened. I became HOOKED on the book and I thought, "I must share this book with the fifth graders of North Landing. They will love it as well!".

Every week, I will visit your class and share a couple chapters from this amazing book. The power will come from this blog. A blog is a tool for communication. We can all write things for the world to view. We can write our thoughts, our opinions, or even pieces we have written and want to share.

Do me a favor. Keep this blog alive. Visit it once or twice a week. Each time you visit, read my postings and the postings of your peers. I will post every week before I meet with your class. Also, consider writing something yourself. Be a part of the magic.

See you soon!

Mrs. Horsley

There is a phrase in one of my favorite movies, Harry potter and the Order of the Pheonix, where Harry Potter said "I've been thinking about something Dumbeldore said he said there was something we had that voldemort didn't." Well that "thing" is friendship. The point is you could be the richest person in the world but if you don't have friends you don't have anything.

  19. Thanks for inviting me to share in your blog. I love to read and write. During the hurricane, I was able to read the latest John Grisham novel. I couldn't put it down so Mr. Risney had no dinner. Oh well! I love the way Mr. Grisham switches things up and adds to the plot with mid-novel twists and new information. I think I have it all figured out and then I begin to wonder.... I also like to see places I know in the books I read. Those details grab my interst. Mr. Grisham references Norfolk and Roanoke. Of course the plot is ficticious (fake),but it's still fun to see the words Norfolk and Roanoke appear in his novel. Have to go...Mr. Risney is hungry.
