Section 1: Is It Really This Simple?

I am so excited that we are taking this journey together. Writing. It really is a beautiful thing! Everyone possesses thoughts. Writing allows us to permanently record our thoughts. How cool! One hundred years from now, people can read what I was thinking in 2012. I love that!

So let's have a little fun. Let's share...

What kind of writer are you?
"Do you favor exciting plots, or complex characters? Are you interested in action or emotion or mood? Do you enjoy describing everything in the room, or do you prefer to write pages of dialogue? Do you write about things that you've seen and experenced, or do you love fantasy worlds? Do you prefer science or fiction? Do you like romance, comedy, mystery, or stories about real-life problems? Do you like all the above, none of it, or your own unique mixture?" (Mazer, p.5)

Where do you like to write?
Pick a place in this world that is the PERFECT writing location. It should be a place where you feel calm, comfortable, and INSPIRED.

Try to post a response by next week. Anyone who posts by my next meeting will get a treat.

Remember the posting rules:
1. No last names.
2. Write your teacher's name in parentheses ( ) next to your first name.
3. Reread your post before you submit. Does it make sense? Are you proud of your response. It will be read by everyone.
4. Mrs. Horsley will moderate comments. It will not appear until it is approved by her.

Also, try to read a few of your peers' responses. That is the fun part.
Mrs. Horsley will post first. :)

Have a BEAUTIFUL week.
Mrs. Horsley

  1. What kind of writer am I?

I am an "all-kinds of writing" kind of writer! I really love to SPILL INK on paper. I love to make lists. I love to write letters and emails to friends and family. I love to write my thoughts down in a journal. I love to write pieces of work that will help someone learn how to do something. I love to write poetry. Sometimes I write stories about things that have happened to me. When I am feeling silly, I write jokes. When I am reading, I write down GREAT quotes from the author that I want to remember.

Where do I like to write?
My writing space must be two things: QUIET and CLEAN. I sometimes play light, classical music. I like sitting in a comfortable chair. I especially love if the window is open and a warm breeze is blowing on me. I turn my phone and TV off. Writing requires no distractions (for me!)

I love to be very descriptive with my writing. I try to paint a picture for my audience. I love lots of color in my writing. I love making list because they keep me organized. I feel like I've accomplished a lot when I scratch off an item on my list.
I love to write outside or near the window. the light brightens my writing and helps my mind breath. I love writing next to a fire because that's where my thoughts spill over!
I like the idea of spilling ink. I also like being in control

I like make lists or write reminders. I also love writing stories whenever I have an idea, actually I'm writing a book now called Unspoken Words. My favorite place to write would probably be sitting by my mom outside on a beach chair with shade.

  3. I really like the first chapter that you read. It was very interesting when you read the class the book. I will ask my parents to get the book Spilling Ink at Books-A-Million. I will probably like the rest of the book every Wednesday after lunch.

I am the kind of writer who would love to write about action, adventure, or maybe a mystery. I sometimes like to write about my life, too. When I write it is like I'm pouring myself into my writing. My perfect writing spot would be on a hill under a tree. I love to be in the sun but still be able to see. I love to be sarounded by nature. So far I love the book Spilling Ink.

I like to think back on something else i've read, then think of something related that's in my own interest.
My newest story,"The Realms of Thunder",is still being written, yet based on my recent imagination. 15 year old Skyelar realizes that she is an immortal being, and that she has to save the first Realm of Thunder in order to accomplish the mission at hand and discover new powers on her journey.
I love spilling ink! It totally shares the idea of great writing.

I'm the kind of writer who gets inpiration from practically ANYTHING! I'm can be persuasive sometimes, or completely fiction. As I said before Anything!

The place i think would be a nice place to just relax and write is ouside under an apple tree. I find the branches quite confortable but still very calm. Usually loud too, unlike most people wh write I love the noise it helps me with my writing actually.

I love spilling some ink on the paper!

  13. I enjoy writing about real life events. Only because I love it when the reader really connects with what I write. If I could choose where to go to write I would probably choose Hawaii. I would pick Hawaii, because it's so nice and calm. Now get out a piece of paper and spill some ink.

  21. I don't seem to have much time for writing right now, but when I do write, I make lists and I like making little check boxes for marking off items from my list. I really like journal writing and recently found a journal from when I was in college. It's neat to see how I've changed since then. It's very eye opening! I like to draw in my journals, too.

I love writing lists. They keep me organized and I really enjoy the feeling of accomplishment that I get when I finish something and can cross it off of the list. I also enjoy persuasive writing. I think it is fun to see if my writing can actually persuade someone to do or try something.

I like to read writing and books by people who use lots of descriptive words. I especially love writing that uses extensive and unique vocabulary words. I like to call those really good vocabulary words "Sparkle Words." I had a teacher once who used the term "Sparkle Words" for those REALLY good words that students in our class used in their writing. I liked the term so much that I borrowed it from her!

I like to type my writing. For me, typing is both easier and faster than using a pen or pencil. It is also much easier to revise and edit my work when I type it on the computer. When I write, I have to have no distractions. Sometimes I like listening to music when I write, but sometimes, when I really have to focus, I have to have complete quiet.

I really love to write, if you gave me a paper and a pencil I could write anywhere. I personaly like to write mystery books. I love the suspense, and the rush you feel when you figure out who did it. I truely love writing because it gives you the freedom to write anything you were ever afraid to say on one little piece of paper. So if you have a paper in front of you now is the perfect chance to say how you feel.

  27. I am an incredible I love to show how much effort I can show others. I love to first just show what I can truly do with just a pencil and a plain white piece of paper. Also I love to write about mystery, fantasy, and I like to persuade my readers. I'm very sierious about writing but I know that sometimes we all want to rush so we can just get it off our list of things to do.

Same with me. To write I must have EVERTHING on mute. When I am in class that is kind of hard so I go to my favorite place in my head and make it as quiet as I can.

  29. What kind of writer am I? I am a writer that loves to let my imagination run free. The type of genres I like writing about are mystery, fantasy, poems, and biographies. I like to write mysteries because you can surprise people at the end. I like to write fantasies because you can create anything you imagine. I like writing poems because you can rhyme words and be creative. Also I like writing biographies because you can write interesting facts about yourself. The only way I can write about these is by spilling some ink. Great book choice Mrs. Horsley.

  30. Also all you need is a pencil, paper, and your imagination. As you can see it is really easy to spill some ink.

  31. I am one those writers who has a tough time focusing on writing. If you are one I under stand. What I do is I try to imagine myself in the story. Then the artwork begins and once I start I can't stop. It's becuase when you write you start to melt and become a charector of the story and then it ends all of a sudden with one little period. If you wait you will be in a story again but that is becuase stories are all around even life is story. That is how I like to write and what kind of writer I am.
