" Did you know ideas are everywhere, growing wild, yours for the picking? If you miss one or two, nature will offer you many more?"
This section of Spilling Ink is dedicated to story ideas. Where do we get them? Where do we store them?
If you are like Mrs. Horsley, you must jot down your ideas as you get them or else you will forget them. People have diferent ways to record their ideas.
Some use paper...
Some use sticky notes...
Some text themselves...
Some send themselves emails...
Some record their voices....
Some keep paper or online journals...
People have all kinds of tactics for jotting down their ideas.
Your challenge for the week:
Make an effort to record good ideas this week. How should you record them? Your choice! (See the above list.) Whenever a good idea strikes you (and usually it happens like a bolt of lightning)...jot it down!
Comment to the blog and let us know 2 things.
1. What method of jotting down your ideas did you use?
2. What is one idea this week that STRUCK you? What's something you'd like to write about?
I always have my phone with me, so I use the notepad on my phone to record great ideas.
ReplyDeleteQuotes usually inspire me and make me want to write. Recently I read a quote from a man named Ghandi, "Be the difference you want to see in the world." I jotted this quote down in my phone's notepad. I wanted to use this an inspiration to write a story about a child who helps out a family in need during the holiday season.
Mrs.Horseley, I love how you use any way to jot down ideas. That's what makes you awesome.
DeleteI agree with you Alyssa it's cool how tou use many ways to jot down ideas, and I belive you could take it far with that idea for a story.
DeleteI use my Ipad to record my voice. One of the thing that I said was a cristmas tree coming to life.I got the idea from my cristmas tree.
ReplyDeleteI know how you're super handy with your ipad, but I never would've thought you jotted your amzing ideas in it.
DeleteYou're a very creative girl, Jojo.
Your ARE a very efficient girl, but I don't have an ipad.
Delete*cries to death*
Don't worry, I ain't dead anymore.
Anyways....very smart!
Your ideas are always the cheery ones out of all the rest.
DeleteBut my ideas are so...DEEP...so.....DARK....
I don't have an ipad either. That does'ent stop me from getting those ideas down.
DeleteI love your voice JoJO! What a great way to record!
DeleteI always have sticky notes with me, so I can write a little idea and not take to long.
ReplyDeleteFiction books usaly inspire me because I love magic and fantasy. I have recently read the percy jackson series and has given me a ton of ideas. It inspired me about a sorceress girl with no memory to save the world from an evil queen.
I like your idea of always having sticky notes with you.
DeleteI too love the genre of fantasy and myth.
i write something down when i see something really cool.
DeleteSo all of my ideas can go into one book.
I agree the Percy Jackson series was really good even if I did not finish it completly.
DeleteFiction books inspire me all the time too.
DeleteWOW! You are so much like me Maddie! Fiction books get my ideas flowing also!
DeleteWhenever I have an idea for a story, I always idmedetly write it down on my hand or paper.
ReplyDeleteThis week I have read a biography, and in that biography I was inspired by a poem called champion. The poem was about never giving up, and was written by a gymnast. (Shawn Jhonson) It made me want to write about a gymnast who never gives up, has many diffucluties in life including some with gymnastics and some not so related to gymnastics, throught the book this girl will learn about love freinds and living her dream, and finally growing up to be a champion. I know percisly how the begging, middle, end, and many details people would most likely forget.
I like how you have the concept of never giving up your dreams.
DeleteI also LOVE the idea of you writing about it.
Writing on your hand!? What do I say!? I've seen you make notes on your hand. As a mom, I should fuss, as a teacher who wants you to write....keep those ideas coming no matter where you write them!
DeleteI usually just write ideas down in my notebook.I was thinking of making an interesting memaid story.
ReplyDeleteIt is gonna be about an ordinary mermaid teenage girl with 18 sisters and 10 brothers.
I have a very good memory, yet my ideas go into one ear then out the other and appear again at a much later time.
ReplyDeleteI also have a better chance of remembering something when i'm fully interested. It's helps the idea stay where it's suppose to, and I can just grab it when I need it.
"Jotted Ideas"
-cat warriors from Warriors series
-romantic comedy from the back of my mind!
-"You can't keep a paw in each world." From Warriors series
-"Everything changes...you will always have change. It's just something that can't be stopped. You and I will continue to change...my problem is,will we change for the better and grow together?Or shred everything apart?" from flipnote hatena series "Change"
Not the book about cats. I really LOVE your creativity. I could really see you going somewhere.
DeleteMAN.
DeleteThat whole "Change" idea was REALLY deep...
But it's so unbearably true.
But I do LOVE the cat books. It's where I get most of my creativity!
So unbearably true.....

Delete"What would you do if you found out you were the one who dreams of the ancient times, the one who read the sky, and the heroine of the future and beyond?
Avalon Sapphire finds out that she is all three of the legendary heros of the past and future.
She encounters dangers you've never seen before and a dark secret that will change her life forever..."
Yes, I made that up with some inpiration from Wizard 101, a Flipnote Hatena series, and the Warriors series by Erin Hunter.
Story Title: Avalon Sapphire:AshDreamer,SkyReader, and Neko Warrior
I did not really enjoy the Cat Warriors series. That is still okay, you have a great imagination and can write really good Alyssa.
DeleteI love your thoughts on change! I got a lot of ideas from reading that.
DeleteMy useful jotting down thing is my notebook. Also today when you were talking i thout of a clear marker who doesnt have color throgh a adventure of meeting friends and having fun.
ReplyDeleteCool!
DeleteI never thoght about carrying around a notebook.
Your imagination is full of great ideas I can see.
That sounds like a amazing idea!
DeleteCool! I always see you with a notebook. You are unique and very creative and it's good to express yourself through art.
DeleteLooking at your art work gives me ideas Hunter. What a great way to inspire all.
DeleteEmily (molen)
ReplyDeleteI usually write down things on a post it note then add it to my writting journal later. I was thinking of a girl who gets to goto the moon.
I use my laptop most of the time or my phone!!A flah drive with your name an a photo of your self. You could never losse it.I got this idea from my flash drive that i lost in a big pile.
ReplyDeleteHow do you jot the ideas down on your laptop?
DeleteI'm gonna look for a way...
Anyways, I think you have great ideas for remembering your thoughts. I don't wana buy a another flash drive though.
I'm still searching for a way to jot it down on the computer, but thanks for bringing the idea to me.
DeleteI'm also trying to figure out how to record stories on line. I want it to be saved on my netbook.
The way you got your flash drive idea is funny. You are right it is most likely that you can't lose it.
DeleteI love my flash drives! I store lots of ideas there also Lily. Great minds think alike!
DeleteI am the type of person who writes ideas on the back of my hand or run to the nearest piece of paper and write it down. My ideas come from things that l read or things I like. The one main place I get my ideas are from my imagination. If i hear or see something sad I turn it into an adventure. I have such a bad memory I forget what I wore YESTERDAY. Mainly when I get an idea I scream ,it"s kind of a sickness. The time I saw that a dog got kidnapped, I thought it could be an adventure for when a girl's dad gets kidnapped and she runs away to find him.
ReplyDeleteI like how your very efficient, Ekene.
DeleteUsually I would just try to remember ideas, but your method works great as well.
And I don't think you made it to the blog before Jojo.
I thought about it for awhile, then I remembered how I write on the back of my hand too!
DeleteThanks for helping me re-cap my memory, Ekene.
Again, I think you and Austin's methods are the best.
Well, the best for me.
I have a horrible memory to, somtimes when a show commercials I can't remember what show I was watching! I also write it on the write it on the back of my hand too. READ MY BLOG! PLEASE!!!!!!
DeleteYou have a great imagination Ekene! I know your ideas will always be amazing!
Deleteaustin(barbour)
ReplyDeletei'm the type of person the just uses my mind to think of things and jots it in one of mysaving cabinets in my brain and remembers it until i get to a piece of paper.
That is cool autstin . I have a terrible memory good thing you do.
DeleteI'm the type of thinker who can remember what I thought of for only about ten minutes then I either forget or keep on saying it in my head to temporarily remember it.
DeleteThat's the same way I like to jot down things!
DeleteI think you have a great method, Austin.
Man your memory is great. So I guess that can effect your method and that's why everybodys is different. Even though I do not like this method personelly it's still really great for you.
DeleteYou're like an iphone 5! You have great abilites and you are very smart Austin. Keep up the good work!
DeleteYour memory is amazing Austin! I know I depend on it in class when I forget.
DeleteI like putting notes down on my Nook so I can remember. Mrs. Barbour said somthing remerkable that gives me an idea. She said, 'You can do anything you want with your writing.'. To me that makes me want to write just about anything.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that Mrs.Barbour is very inspiring.;)
DeleteYes! That really is insperational. Go Mrs. Barbour she is so helpful and great.
DeleteMrs.Barbour is very insperational I love her! Use those things to help you trough the S.O.Ls and life.

ReplyDeleteNice ideas Tori!
DeleteI wish I had an ipod.....
LOL!! I love that idea. Hope your take it far.
DeleteOf course your idea is the best Victoria! You have chosen my favorite things! I love it!
DeleteI like to keep my splendid ideas in a notebook/journal or on a piece of paper. I sometimes keep them in my head but i end up losing or forgeting them and it makes me mad. [:(
ReplyDeleteWell with your creativity you can just make a new one. I would love to hear one idea though.
DeleteSorry to hear that, Coop.
DeleteBut I agree witth Ekene. With your amazing creativity, you can always make new, fun ideas!
Yea, that makes me mad too. Though you could do things to exersize your brain it really helps. Keep trying!!!=D
DeleteI know how you feel I will have a great idea then lose it. :[
DeleteEverything you do is splendid Cooper! You always have great ideas!
DeleteAll this week ideas have come to me like bees to honey! Here are some of them...
ReplyDelete. Thursday. Today I thought I may make a story about a little girl who is stuck in an abandened tree house during a big storm.
. Friday. Today I thought I could write about a princess in a tower and insted of a prince coming to save her a little girl comes and frees her.
. Monday. Today I thought I could write about a little boy who loves to dance but doesnt want to because he thinks everyone will laugh at him.
Great job Jacqueline
DeleteVery creative Jacqueline! Your ideas are really flowing!
Deletei jotted down on my phone and i get ideas playing games.
ReplyDeleteSo do I mason!
DeleteI do the same thing. I take my phone and just put it in notes.
DeleteI can see you getting ideas from gaming! It is a good place.
DeleteSometimes I share my ideas because I recrord tennis news for others. I also put my ideas in my note book app.
ReplyDeleteI usually write things on my hand . One of them were about if are class would have turtles everywhere. That was the craziest one I ever had.
ReplyDeleteI like using my note book it helps me get through what I'm going to right next
ReplyDeleteI get my ideas when ever I read a action packed book. I just got an idea while reading the book The Hobbit.
ReplyDeleteI write my ideas on a post-it. I would truly forget if I didn't write them down.
ReplyDeleteReading any genre gives me ideas. Nature gives me lots of ideas also. My family is an outdoors family.
I get my ideas from movies or books and then write it down on a peace of paper. I like to read about mysteries and adventures.
ReplyDeleteI PUT ideas in my mental compost. A 10-year old boy gets lost in the woods, and befriends bears that help him get home.
ReplyDeleteIm the type of person that jots things dowen when I need them so when I go look at them its right there so while im at it I can write more stuff.
ReplyDeleteI write my ideas on my journal that I got for my birthday or I write my ideas on my phone because it has a note pad on it. I have a really bad memory so I usually just write it there.
ReplyDeleteHI
ReplyDeleteI simply jot down ideas on a piece of paper and they just keep on coming. An idea that struck me was this week I was watching my favorite show, Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition, and the dances were so creative I decided to write about a clown because one of the dances was circus related.
ReplyDeleteI write my ideas in my ipod or my notebook
ReplyDeletei write my ideas on a sheet of paper and what struck me was to make a french fry pickle
